Atholl Lodge is a three-storey detached Edwardian family home which boasts pretty, landscaped gardens, original period features and a gated rear car-park.

Spacious and well presented, this pleasant and comfortable guesthouse is situated on a leafy residential street tucked away from noise and through-traffic. The interior is decorated in a clean, coordinated palate of whites, blues and red with good quality furniture throughout the hotel.

THE ROOMS

All of the comfortable guest bedrooms at Atholl Lodge have been arranged to maximise available space and are equipped with good quality furniture (including a wardrobe), double glazed windows, colour televisions, hairdryers and tea/coffee making facilities.

A range of room types is available, from large family rooms to small single rooms with no ensuite perfect for the budget traveller. We have one ground floor room with easy access ensuite which is suitable for wheelchair users.

FAMILY ROOM

Ideal for families with young children, our large sized family room has a double bed, single bed and double sofa-bed (pullout) and sleeps up to 3 adults and 2 children.

This comfortable room is decorated in shades of jewel red, white and black and boasts quality pine furniture, high ceilings and a large bay window.

This room is located on the ground floor of the hotel and is suitable for those with accessibility requirements or wheelchair users. The ensuite shower room has special mobility-ease features such as handrails and a special shower cubicle.

We have two spacious, light and welcoming double bedrooms which are both decorated in a pleasing blue and white combination and are fitted with good quality pine furniture.

TWIN ROOM

Our twin rooms with their two single beds are spacious and comfortable, and are ideal for 2 friends travelling together.

SINGLE ROOM

We have four single ensuite bedrooms at Atholl Lodge all of which are laid out to maximise the available space, and are furnished with a comfortable single bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside cabinet.

These rooms are suitable for a solo traveller (rooms sleep one adult only) and offer the privacy of an ensuite shower room.

BASIC SINGLE

Travellers on a budget may prefer one of our basic single rooms which have no ensuite facilities, but share a shower room with one other bedroom. These are small rooms that have been laid out to maximise available space and are furnished comfortably with quality furniture, draping and linens.

These small but comfortable rooms are situated at the very top of the house in the eaves. Very tall guests should be careful not to bump their heads as parts of the ceiling may be sloped.

THE DINING ROOM

Our dining room is pleasingly decorated in jewel red tones and safari artwork.

Breakfast

Served between 7am - 9am weekdays, and between 8am - 10am weekend.

Those with a hearty appetite should choose our traditional English Breakfast which is cooked to order and consists of fried egg, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and baked beans. A vegetarian breakfast is always available.

If you prefer something a little lighter then we can prepare you something else selected from our breakfast menu. Options include boiled egg with soldiers, poached eggs, scrambled egg on toast or a bacon sandwich.

Guests who have not booked on a bed and breakfast tariff may purchase a full English Breakfast for just £6.00 (please notify us the evening before).

Evening Self Catering

You may use the dining room in the evening if you wish to prepare your own evening meals or order a takeaway. A small fridge, microwave and kettle (as well as cutlery and crockery) have been provided for your convenience when self catering in the evening. Evening meals by arrangement.

THE LOUNGE

The sunny conservatory residents lounge with its comfortable seating, greenery and large windows overlooks the landscaped rear garden and is the ideal place to while away a few hours with a good book, watch a film or meet with friends.

In fine weather you may prefer to soak up some elusive British sun in the garden which has patio seating and is perfect for al-fresco dining, drinks and barbecues.

Acocks Green is a peaceful and friendly Birmingham suburb located midway between Birmingham and Solihull.

Situated 5 miles south of Birmingham City Centre, just off the main A45 road which leads from the city to the International Airport and National Exhibition Centre, Acocks Green is ideally placed for convenient travel throughout the South Birmingham area.

The area has excellent public transport facilities with fast and frequent train services to Birmingham and Solihull, and numerous major bus routes including the 11 circular (the longest European bus route) which rings around Birmingham's metropolitan centre.

Our hotel is situated 5 minutes walk from Acocks Green railway station and is served by numerous local facilities.

There are numerous restaurants in Acocks Green with cuisines ranging from Indian to Kashmiri, and Italian to Greek. There are also several public houses and bars.

If you wish to eat-in, then you may purchase take away or groceries to prepare your own simple meal (we have a fridge, microwave and utensils for your use) to eat in our dining room. There is a Big Johns takeaway less than 5 minutes from the hotel selling a range of pizzas, fish & chips, kebabs and fried chicken. Additionally there is a large range of Indian, Asian, Chinese, Thai and Pizza restaurants that offer delivery to Atholl Lodge.

At the end of Elmdon Road there is a parade of shops. If you cross the road, there is a general grocery store with off-licence where groceries can be purchased. A large Sainsburys supermarket is located in the centre of Acocks Green.

Shopping

A parade of shops is located less than 5 minutes from the hotel where you will find a Post Office & General Store, off-licence, grocers and florist.

Acocks Green Village is a 10 minute walk away. Here you will find a Boots Chemist, SuperDrug, Works Bookstore, Wilkinson, Dorothy Perkins and Burtons. There are also several banks with cash machines, cafes, coffee shops and supermarkets.

Acocks Green offers dentists, doctors and chemists. There are several hospitals nearby.

Leisure

Acocks Green has its own local authority leisure centre where you can access gymn, squash, badminton, swimming and fitness facilities. There are also a number of private gymns. Further afield, the newly refurbished leisure centre in Solihull has tennis, athletic and diving facilities.

There are a number of parks in the area which are ideal for walking or jogging.

A bowling alley and LaserQuest are located 10 minutes walk away in Acocks Green village. Ice skating is available at the Solihull Ice Rink, which is a 15 minute drive.

At the Touchwood Centre in Solihull (15 minute drive) you will find a multiplex cinema.

There are several pubs in Acocks Green with a mix of entertainments on offer.

Worship

Acock's Green has seven churches including St Mary the Virgin, Acocks Green, Holy Souls, a Methodist church on Shirley Road, a Baptist church on Yardley Road and the Ghamkol Sharif Mosque.

HOW TO GET TO ACOCKS GREEN

When travelling by train...
London Marylebone to Acocks Green

When travelling form London it is easiest to depart from London Marylebone as Acocks Green station is on that line.

As not many of the London trains stop directly at Acocks Green station, you will probably have to change trains at Solihull station. You can stay on the same platform to wait for the local train, which usually leaves Solihull around 10 - 15 minutes after the London train disembarks. Tickets to and from London are great value, starting at just £5 one way.

Our hotel is located just 5 minutes walk away from the station. Turn right as you leave the station, and continue on until you come to Elmdon Road. Turn right onto Elmdon Road, you will see us mid-way down the road on the left hand side.

New Street Station

For London visitors travelling from Euston and for visitors from most other major cities, your Birmingham bound train will probably arrive into New Street.

You will need to exit New Street and walk 5 minutes down the road to Moor Street station (the little station across the road from the Selfridges side of the Bullring Shopping Centre). From Moor Street, you can take an onward train to Acocks Green.

When travelling by plane, coach or bus...
Flying into Birmingham International Airport?

Taxis are available at the airport. We are a 10-15 minute taxi ride from the airport.

Travelling by bus?

Acocks Green is served by many bus routes, including the Outer Circle (11a/11c) which is the longest urban bus route in any European city.

The 37 service links Solihull to Birmingham City Centre and runs mainly along the Warwick Road, passing through Acocks Green at "The Green". The 31 service links Hall Green and Birmingham City Centre, running along the Stratford Road and passing through Acocks Green Village. The number 1 route runs between Acocks Green and Birmingham Town Hall via Moseley.

Travelling by coach?

The newly refurbished Birmingham coach station is situated on Mill Lane in a part of the city called Digbeth. Visitors with a lot of luggage may wish to take a taxi to Acocks Green. Taxis can be found at the Mill Lane taxi rank.

Alternatively, you can take a local train to Acocks Green from Moor Street Station.

From Mill Lane you should start walking right towards where Digbeth High Street is found at the end of the road. Turn left and walk up Digbeth High Street towards the Bullring Shopping Centre. At the end of the road when you are facing the Bullring, bear right and right again to locate Moor Street Station.

APPROACHING FROM M42

Leave at Junction 6 onto the A45 Coventry Road towards Birmingham. Turn left at the big Swan Island roundabout, sign-posted Acocks Green, onto the A4040 Yardley Road. Take the first exit at the next roundabout, keeping on the Yardley Road. On the left hand side of Yardley Road after the large cemetery and the second parade of shops that you drive past, turn left onto Elmdon Road (immediately after the 'Washland' laundrette). You will see Atholl Lodge on the left hand side.

APPROACHING FROM BIRMINGHAM

On leaving Birmingham City Centre, follow the A34 Stratford Road towards Stratford and take the left fork onto the A41 Warwick Road. Continue on towards Acocks Green 'The Green'. Just before Acocks Green centre (Wilkinsons is ahead on the left) turn left onto Dudley Park Road. This road merges onto Sherbourne Road and then Yardley Road. Take the third right hand turn after the railway station - this is Elmdon Road. We are located on the left hand side of Elmdon Road, midway down the street.

Ideas for places to visit during your stay

Cadbury World: a visit to Cadbury World in Bourneville will educate, inspire and entertain the whole family as you learn about chocolate and hear the Cadbury story. Admission charges apply.

The Barber Institute: one of the finest small collections of European fine art in the UK. The Barber contains works by artists such as Botticelli, Bellini, Rubens, Degas, Van Gogh and Gauguin - all housed in a Grade II listed Art Deco building in the University of Birmingham grounds. Admission is FREE.

The Jewellery Quarter & Museum: this unique quarter dates back over 250 years and is still home to more than 400 jewellery businesses. The area is a proposed World Heritage Site which is currently a designated conservation area boasting over 200 listed buildings and Birminghams last remaining Georgian Square. For a demonstration of jewellery making techniques and guided tour of a real jewellery factory then visit the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter (admission free).

The Balti Triangle: number 15 in the Rough Guide's must-do list for the whole of the UK, the Balti Triangle is where you will find most of Birmingham's Balti action going down. The vast majority of Balti Houses in Birmingham (the Balti Capital) are to be found in this area between Sparkbrook, Balsall Heath and Mosely. Most restaurants are unlicensed and diners bring their own drinks.

The West Midlands is not just about Birmingham!
Stratford-Upon-Avon

The birth place of possibly the West Midlands most famous export - Shakespeare. Stratford is a charming market town which is a pleasure to visit. Many of the original houses from Shakespeare's time are still in excellent condition, and are being preserved by the Shakespeare organisation. Booking in advance is recommended to see the Royal Shakespeare Company perform some of the worlds greatest plays in one of their 3 theatres.

Stratford-Upon-Avon is easy to get to from Atholl Lodge by car or by rail and is a must-visit day out for all first time visitors to the West Midlands.

Warwick & Warwick Castle

Historic Warwick is a delightful town with a bustling market square and plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops to browse.

The castle itself is set within the town and is a great family day out with regular jousting, re-enactments and Mediaeval fun. Admission charges apply.

Royal Leamington Spa

Royal Leamington Spa is an elegant town boasting Georgian and Victorian architecture, tree-lined avenues and pretty gardens.

The Royal Pump Rooms are now a cultural complex. Should you wish to and dare, there is the opportunity to sample the famed medicinal waters that gave Leamington its Royal Spa status.
